Welcome everyone to the Craft & Draft podcast! We are so excited to bring you what we love, talking with you about workshop, literacy, writing, reading, and real world teaching.
In this episode, Jacob and Pam discuss how to build a reading culture. Pam shares how her life as a reader has changed over the years. Jacob also shares how reading was modeled for him throughout his younger years.
They both discuss the benefits of modeling reading in the reading workshop. This modeling encourages students naturally to pick up a book to read. Students must be given time and opportunities to read during school. Many of the students do not have readers in their home lives, so teachers and other students offer them the opportunity. Pam also mentions how reading is a social act and reading to later discuss books with friends and other thinkers brings about a desire to read as well.
Pam and Jacob complete their discourse with an article that promotes a multi-approach in the classroom.
Join Jacob and Pam as they consider the reading community in the classroom!
