#4 The Scarlet Ibis

Welcome everyone to the Craft & Draft podcast! We are so excited to bring to you what we love, talking with you about workshop, literacy, writing, reading, and real world teaching.

In this episode, we explore how to keep our students the most important part of our instruction. As we complete our first six weeks, we discuss our planning and how we meet for the needs of our students in this socially distanced world. We recognize how writing is a social act and how we are utilizing strategies to help our students share their writing.

We dive into Jacob’s lesson with the Scarlet Ibis he did recently, as well as Pam’s experience (and many tears) with the story in her past! If you’re wanting to teach it, or are interested in using a shocking text to engage readers in secondary classrooms, this is definitely the episode for you.

To close, we also revisit our portfolios and Jacob shares his plan to make his portfolios a tool that helps students to become reflective writers.

Join us as we share our experiences planning for student centered workshops!
